HOTELS
$$$ | Westin Chicago River North

The Westin Chicago River North is a perfect spot for a family getaway. The location is great for exploring the city and the riverfront views were stunning -- even my toddler loved watching the boats! The rooms were spacious and quiet (perfect for nap time!) and the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We even got the best welcome check-in gift -- a bag of Garrett's Popcorn! There were so many great restaurants and shopping very close by, so if you're looking for a hotel with a great location, this is it!

$$$ | Sofitel Chicago

The Sofitel Chicago felt like a little slice of luxury during our family trip. The sleek design and comfy rooms made it a treat for us as parents, while the central location made it easy to explore with a little kid in tow. The staff was so kind, and the Le Bar lobby lounge was the perfect spot to unwind after a busy day.

DINING
$$ | Eataly

Eataly Chicago is a must-stop for foodie families! There are two levels, and the space is a mixture of dining and retail space. It's the perfect spot to grab fresh pasta, pizza or gelato with plenty of options for even picky eaters. We had a great time eating lunch and then browsing the shopping areas, which have a ton of gourmet grocery items, many of which are imported from Italy. We did make a reservation, which I'd recommend as it can get busy during peak times.

$$ | Pizzeria Portofino
So, in full candor, I have not actually eaten at Pizzeria Portofino. BUT I did have a reservation there that I was very sad to miss due to a nap and ended up ordering their food for delivery, which was just as good! My reservation was on a heated patio during December, and if you live in the Midwest like us, you know you'll take any opportunity to be outdoors during the winter. Their pizzas, pastas and desserts are delicious, and make sure to get an Aperol spritz for the full experience (these can be ordered for delivery too!).

ACTIVITIES
Field Museum

The Field Museum was a hit with our family! Our toddler loved seeing all the dinosaurs and exploring the animal exhibits. The museum is huge, so make sure you have plenty of time to see it all. It's the perfect mix of learning and fun, and the stroller-friendly layout made it an easy outing for us as parents!
